Notes: Had a rough start...was in the bathroom when everyone started, so had to start the race alone...stomach felt queasy and legs felt tired, but kept moving alone and slow through the course for the first 16 miles! Stopped in outhouse and in woods numerous times to relieve myself in the first 12 miles...arrived at Skyline Gate 15 minutes after the cutoff, but was allowed to continue with warning that the other aid stations would be closing down on time. Started picking up my pace after mile 15 and passed the first runner soon after that...got to the next AS past the cutoff also, but was allowed to go on. By mile 20, I was running, instead of just shuffling and made it to mile 23.4 AS ahead of the cutoff, while passing 2 more runners along the way...kept my good pace going for the rest of the race and had a strong finish! But, the damage was done in the first half, so it took me over 8 hours to finish...but I salvaged the bad start and avoided the dreadful DNF!
