Fitness Statement | I generally stay pretty active in my daily life working with children, but have recently become more conscious of participating in an established fitness routine. As of right now I go to a Pilates class, and am eager to try out the many classes the Y offers. As a part of the UjENA Crew, I am also eager to use the ujenafitclub as a tool to stay motivated and have accountability as my fitness participation increases. |

After a full day of Happy Hollow adventures (a local children's Park and Zoo) and feeling the distinct winter chill in the air, the last I wanted to do was work out when I finished work this evening...BUT, Zumba I did and I feel so much better for it. Thanks for all the recent encouragement!
Borrowed my parents' dogs and took them for a walk/run. About 2 miles. I'm not a big "runner" and often feel awkward going out by myself so I liked having the dogs for company!
Question: I need new tennis shoes, any recommendations-I wear them for walking/light running, Zumba...cross training I guess. Any brands or styles I should go for? Thanks!
If you can't beat them, join them... Took advantage of the warm sunshiny weather today (as much as I am yearning for a good old downpour :)) and with the husband in tow we walked/hiked Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz. It was a great way to stay active and enjoy the time together.
One of my favorite forms of "exercise" is playing hard with the kids I nanny! When they were younger we would take long walks, and pushing the stroller and walking was great exercise. Now that they are older, a rousing game of basketball, monster chase, or good old fashion foot races is great to keep movement in our daily lives. So with the beautiful weather we spent a good part of the day yesterday outside running around and playing. Then last night I went to Pilates and appreciated the stretching and strengthening, I'm really starting to see the difference in my body.
Once again I made my way to Zumba, and once again I realize how lacking I am in grace and coordination!! As I often have other commitments on Monday nights I can't always make the Zumba class so I know that I am missing out on the consistency of mastering (ha!!) the moves. But a great cardio work out, and I appreciate the enthusiasm of the instructor!!
I took a Zumba class tonight for the first time, and it was a great work out. I am definitely grace challenged, and my movements were not as fluid as others however I moved for the whole hour and I did feel the work out. It was good to add in a cardio exercise class.
Last night I was ready to leave work and just head home and settle in for the night with a good book, BUT I made sure I changed into my work out clothes before I left work and I went to the gym. I had a great work out in Pilates. I haven't gone in a week or so (Yoga on Monday didn't feel the same as the Pilates), and the instructor worked our abs hard. I felt stronger, and my muscles had the memory and my body felt limber afterwards.
The only thing is when to eat dinner. I work to 7, and the class is 8-9, so I tend to eat after the work out but then it bumps back going to bed, etc. Trying to find the best time to eat, and the best food to eat before and after.
One other thing I've noticed with my Pilates class is that I enjoy working out in the evening so much more than a morning work out. My body also "performs" better in the evening classes than the morning ones.
I went to Pilates tonight and took my Nan and Aunt (freshly arrived from England) with me. It was a great work out, and with having to sit in a car tomorrow for 4 hours I was glad I went. My little brother is getting married on Saturday in Santa Barbara, and although I won't be getting to any classes I do plan on lots of swimming, and walks on the beach :)
So I messed up my fitlog, my work out was actually yesterday not today. BUT I did finally make it back to Pilates, and it felt good. I have to say reading Lisa and Trish's posts serve as inspiration, and receiving emails from the Fitclub actually remind me and prick at me to get out there and get moving. I've officially joined the Y and I am looking forward to taking advantage of more of their classes.
