Notes: Thanks to Kansas City Running Club for putting on a safe and socially distanced event today in Corporate Woods. It was a really great November morning for running the Gobbler Grind Half Marathon in Overland Park. Nice temps in low 40s, wind a little brisk out of the north but not a real issue. I ran the Marathon here 6 times from ‘05 thru ‘11, all for age group wins. Today was an age group win, funny though, the only previous time I ran the half here (2003) I was 44 minutes faster and no age group win!😳😳
Alarming to lose 44 min over 13 mi in 17 yrs, but thankful to be out here enjoying it.
58 years of races starting with the Half Mile back in Indiana.
3 major factors in Age Group placement that I have noticed: 1) who else shows up; 2) successfully aging up into more ‘senior’ groups (over and over); and 3) being extremely fortunate healthwise; and oh yeah 4) not quitting.
